HANGING BY A TAIL

Leelawati Mohapatra went to St Joseph's Convent, Chandernagore, and Loreto College, Caleutta, before joining the Indian Revenue Service. She got married, chose not to have children, gave up her job, translated a few books and set out to write about her own topsy-turvy life. But halfway through the characters rebelled, became wholly fictional and told their own story.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with...? Monkey asks.

I know, I say. A single step.

Wrong.

I try not to blink.

Begins with a desire. Everything, everything begins here. He taps his head. It sounds like a green coconut full of water.

So begins for Amrita a dream- journey into the depths of her own mind. She sets out for the mythical Kalpataru, the wishing tree, to get what she truly desires.

The story of an inward journey, a yearning for the everlasting, living with dreams, surviving nighmares, Hanging by a Tail is all this and more.
